Password Protected Directories
Discover how to create a secure and user-only area in your website with password-protected directories.
A password-protected directory is a folder that can't be accessed unless the correct login credentials are supplied. This can be an entire Internet site or just a single page which is in a subfolder. If you attempt to open this kind of a directory, you shall see a web browser pop-up where you will need to input a username as well as a password. If you input the correct ones, you'll be able to continue browsing the content without the need to do anything extra. If the login details are not accurate, however, you shall see information that you aren't allowed to view the content. In case this option is active, you won't be able to open a file even when you have a direct link. The option is quite practical if you wish to restrict the access to some content or if you are creating a website and you don't want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Website Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take merely a couple of clicks and a few seconds if you host your sites inside a cloud website hosting account with our company. You will not need to do anything complicated - you will have to select a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it should be secured, and then to input the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. If a number of people require their own login details, there will not be a problem to make a variety of different usernames with access to the same exact folder. All secured folders shall appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this function is active. If you'd like to disable the protection feature for any folder, you can deactivate it from the very same section of the Control Panel where you have enabled it.
